“Lowkey Trippin” is Unsafethe first episode without Issa. It’s also the worst episode of the season so far. And yes, the episode was directed by Jay Ellis (Lawrence on the show), but that’s not why it didn’t land. In fact, Molly and Andrew’s beautiful shots are the only things that keep this episode afloat. Otherwise, “Lowkey Trippin ‘” feels like a waste of time in a season that already seems too short.

The episode picks up exactly where the last one left off and it turns out that Molly saw Issa get out of her car and get back into her car. Molly seems ready to face Issa, but the problem is that she expects Issa to apologize to her. She still thinks the problem is entirely Issa’s fault when Issa knows nothing rectifies Molly’s choice to blow up her event. Even Andrew says Molly should reach out, but stay by her side.

I was hoping this episode would give us the opportunity to see what Andrew gets out of this relationship. Of course Molly is sexy. She is absolutely gorgeous. She’s smart and has a great job, but we haven’t really seen what’s worth it for Andrew. He isn’t really a character here, he’s still just a sounding board for Molly to bounce back. Molly doesn’t realize she has a problem and needs her therapist because she ruined her best friend’s event, she only realizes that she might need some help when she threatens things with her boyfriend. Even though Molly says she’s ready for anything this weekend, it’s hard to be ready for anything if you can’t let go of whatever is bothering you.

The thing is, Molly isn’t completely wrong. While we didn’t see the white couple before she showed her room key or not, it could very well have been a racist gesture. It could also have just been company policy and an employee being intense about their job. Andrew’s brother is boring as Devil’s Advocate, but overall it seemed like he just wanted Molly to let go of the annoyance. What else was there to do? They have the towel. Molly, on the other hand, couldn’t let go like a micro-aggression or misunderstanding, she jumps to accusations against Asians and alienates everyone. She realizes her mistake, but it’s too late. She already told them to fuck off.

Of course, I’m glad Molly finally called her therapist and got some help, but it doesn’t seem fair to her character that this realization only came in jeopardy. her relationship with a man. The moment Nathan calls Andrew and Molly jump to the same assumptions after hearing Issa might have been a better step for a confrontation between the two. Molly accuses Issa of liking messy things and thinks Nathan is someone to write off.

The thing is, Molly is the one who likes messy things. For example, Iit’s a little idiot write off your boyfriend’s roommate like that! André explains that Nathan suffered from mental health issues. Molly finally seems to understand: she came to a bad conclusion about Nathan last season and hasn’t let go of him yet. Still, doesn’t she trust Andrew? If their relationship is stable, wouldn’t she trust his taste for friends and roommates? Does Andrew want to date someone who would assume the worst of their friends? In addition, tGetting Andrew to know immediately disaster is on the horizon when Molly hears Issa’s voice isn’t something I think he would want to deal with for long.

It does not matter. Andrew is not a character with depth in this series. He’s just a hot perfect ass-eating boyfriend. It might as well be cardboard because it’s really just there to look sexy. Is he afraid to push Molly when she says he’s “different” from other Asians because he knows she’s going to jump on him? Is he just the most relaxed guy in the world? Is he happy to handle Molly’s intense reactions to things? Andrew’s brother was right about one thing: Molly picked and chose who to give the benefit of the doubt. The towel lady is not worthy of it. Issa is not worthy of it, but Andrew is.

Then there is Kim Fields. Although she only appears a few times, she is an allegory of Molly. Molly can give Andrew everything and make it a priority and be married to him for 25 years and he could always leave her alone to start over. This is the path Molly is on if she continues to put men before her sanity and friendships: an end of life. How Stella found her groove end. You can give a man everything, but what does it mean if you have nothing else left for yourself?

• I really hope Issa continues to hang out with Nathan.
• I loved Andrew’s sister-in-law! She seemed to realize that her husband and Molly were both having sex.
• Seriously, I need Andrew to have a little more depth.
