Help your children’s schools get free Morrisons gardening supplies and seeds
SCHOOLS in Worcestershire and Birmingham are invited to participate in a new program that gives them free gardening materials and seeds.
It’s Good to Grow was started by Morrisons to encourage more students to eat more fruits and vegetables.
Research shows that of 1,115 children surveyed aged 6 to 15, 70% are more likely to eat products they have grown and taken care of themselves.
More than half (56%) of children aged 6-10 in the UK currently do not eat the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables each day.
The Morrisons program aims to build a closer relationship between children and fruits and vegetables so that they can see that it can be easy and inexpensive to grow their own produce once they have the skills to do it.
Customers can earn a ‘It’s Good to Grow’ token in their My Morrisons account through the app and website for every £ 10 spent in store or online, which can then be donated to any school to redeem. equipment such as garden tools, composting bins and seeds to grow.
The National Food Strategy, released earlier this year, highlighted the need for the UK to improve food health while protecting the environment, warning that failure to do so could lead to obesity costing $ 15 billion. pounds sterling to the NHS by 2035.
Morrisons hopes the project – by educating children about the food journey from field to plate – will help them choose healthier options for filling their plates.
New research conducted by YouGov on behalf of Morrisons has found that some children between the ages of six and 15 do not fully understand how fruits and vegetables are grown. For example, only 34 percent correctly identified how asparagus is grown – 32 percent said it was grown underground and 21 percent did not know how it was grown.
Being Britain’s largest food maker, Morrisons wants to empower kids to connect with the natural world so they better understand what they’re putting into their bodies.
It’s Good To Grow ‘aims to transform 14,000 schools in Britain into Morrisons Growing Schools by providing children with additional educational resources to demonstrate the importance of improving their health, while using their environment.
