A wish,” shared Dr. Molly O’Shea of Birmingham Pediatric and Wellness Center and official pediatrician of Goldfish Swim School. “Witnessing that your child is passionate about chasing a dream – no matter how small – is a magical experience. What many families need to understand is that these dreams are the first critical developmental stages in goal setting, learning, and work ethic. pediatrician, I always love to inspire children to share their dreams and encourage parents to take the time to listen and help their children reach their full potential. “
Families everywhere are invited to join Goldfish Swim School to celebrate World dream day this saturday 25 september. The day serves as an important reminder that dreaming, wishing, and hoping are essential steps in helping children become good, healthy, and holistic humans.
GOLDFISH SWIMMING SCHOOL, DR. TIPS FROM MOLLY AND OLYMPIC SWIMMER RYAN MURPHY TO HELP CHILDREN FULFILL THEIR DREAMS
Encourage your children to dream big: Bring excitement to the table when kids talk about their dreams. It is also important for children to have role models in their lives who they strive to be. Whether it’s you as the supporting parent or a professional athlete like world champion swimmer Ryan Murphy.
How to set and achieve goals: Take something your child already likes and ask them to set a goal to do it better. Ask them to suggest how you can help them reach their goal. Most importantly, let your child set their own goals and watch them grow! We know it can be tempting as a parent to lead your child towards a goal you think is good, but it has to be THEIR goal or dream for the passion to exist.
Make sure your kids have persistence: We all have times when we feel tired, overwhelmed, or defeated – that’s okay! Help your child explore the “why” behind their desire to give up. By empathizing and then exploring it with them, you validate their feelings and then help them persevere in navigating the difficulty.
How to deal with failure: Parents have so many opportunities to influence how their children view their accomplishments and failures. When parents focus on the outcome (good or bad), they prepare children for an all-or-nothing mentality about themselves. Instead, if parents can focus on the effort while commenting on the outcome, it lets the child see that the effort matters.
