What we like
For a company known for its high-tech gadgets, the Ecobee Sweet Dreams baby kit is remarkably simple to set up. No user manual is needed, just download the Ecobee app and follow the instructions to get your camera, thermostat and sensor connected and working.
Right out of the box, we trained the SmartCamera on our test subjects within minutes. Although slightly more complicated, the thermostat took us about 25 minutes to install. The sensor, which senses the ambient temperature wherever you place it, only needed a quick pairing. The app itself has a clean and easy-to-navigate interface, making it easy to monitor the nursery.
There are tons of useful features
For anyone who has ever risked waking a baby to check if they are sleeping too hot or too cold, the SmartSensor will be a welcome relief. While the SmartThermostat reads the temperature at its installation site, the sensor allows you to monitor the environment in any room where you place it.
The SmartCamera captures daytime video with stunning clarity, thanks to its 1080p HD settings. It also has a 180-degree field of view, which displays the nursery in a panorama, especially useful if you are keeping an eye on more than one sleeping child.
Making good use of its origin as a safety camera, the monitor has the ability to automatically track a moving child. The lens adapts to movement, ensuring that a small climber or crawler never goes out of the frame. Parents of toddlers who love mischief will put this feature to good use.
Key features are customizable
One feature that really sets Ecobee’s SmartCamera apart from other baby monitors is the option to create activity zones. In the settings, users can draw a boundary that allows the monitor to detect movement only in that area. If you have stray animals, for example, they can roam the nursery freely without triggering camera notifications.
Users can also set the sensitivity level of the activity tracker, choosing to pick up even modest movements, or to report only the most noticeable movements. Adjust the speaker volume, choose Alexa integration, and switch between video and audio-only options, all with a few clicks on your smartphone.
The SmartThermostat has an intuitive touchscreen that allows many programming options to keep your home comfortable and energy efficient. Manage this device either by app or on the thermostat itself.
It can become part of your security system once the kids grow up
For anyone focused on sustainability, the Ecobee SmartCamera makes a smart choice. While many baby monitors make their way to the landfill after their use is complete, the SmartCamera easily fits into your home as an indoor security camera. Buyers can switch from home use to baby monitor with just one setting option, dimming the camera’s LED lights and disabling a security siren function.
The SmartThermostat and SmartSensor are whole-house-focused and can continue to keep your whole family comfortable long after your baby has outgrown the nursery. Relocate the sensor to any room that has difficulty regulating the temperature.
What we don’t like
Push notifications are silent
While the SmartCamera connects to the app and runs continuously, whether video or audio only, it’s easy to miss push notifications when they appear without a beep. There’s no point in receiving an alert that your baby has thrown a soft toy out of the crib if you can’t see it for 30 minutes. Parents will be best served by making sure the audio works consistently to pick up all sounds coming from the cradle and by video recording periodically.
Key alerts are missing
On two occasions during testing, we inadvertently muted the camera microphone and, without any alerts, did not realize it for hours. Likewise, when the camera disconnects, as any baby monitor can, we do not receive any notifications or alerts. Knowing when your baby monitor is malfunctioning is crucial for peace of mind as a parent, so it is a definite drawback for us.
It is always a good idea to keep safety in mind when installing Wi-Fi enabled cameras inside your home. The SmartCamera provides peace of mind by using two-factor authentication during setup, as well as on-device processing and video encryption during runtime, which goes a long way in helping to keep your views safe. nursery.
Should we buy it?
Yes, but only if you plan to carefully monitor notifications
While we remain excited about the awesome innovation showcased in the Sweet Dreams Baby Kit, we cannot overlook the SmartCamera’s flaws at its most basic level. Every parent needs a reliable, reliable monitor they can depend on, and without sound notifications and malfunction alerts, we don’t think the SmartCamera meets this critical need. If you plan to monitor closely, this will suit your needs. But if you’re a parent who knows you rely on sound signals, this monitor might not be for you.
Instead, we recommend the Cubo Ai Plus Smart Monitor, which is the best video baby monitor we’ve tested.
